Hello all. I'm new to the credit repair world and would like to throw my case out and see if you guys can tell me where to begin. Recently graduated from college, have a great job, but due to various collection agency bills from college and charge off by Providian, I'm sporting a 526 score... So I'm having to rebbuild before I can by a house. Anyways. The Providian account was sent to Assests Collections. Providian will not talk to me about the account. I have agreed to pay $150 a month for 9 months to pay it off. Is this the correct thing to do? I don't understand how it hurts you to pay off a debt but a lot of people a round here say it does. Also I have two Time Warner Cable collection from 896 and of all things March 02. I recently moved and this is thr prorated bill, they say I can pay it directly but I already have a collection report on it in my file. What gives? Should I send a cease and dessist notice? In total I have 4-5 negative collections on my report with the Providian charge off. Where do I begin. I do not dispute any of the debts.. I just want to know how I can pay them and get them removed... Also I cancelled my Rich's card and instead of closed at consumer's request in says grantor's request.

    Thanks!

You probably are not going to be able to "pay them and get them off" your reports. Paying a charge-off doesn't hurt your score per se. It simply makes it harder to dispute off later on. Also, paying it doesn't really improve your score at all.
