Hello, my name is joe and I am new to the forum. I hope that here I can find some direction towards dealing with my credit. I will try to make this as short as possible. I have been unemployed for over a year now and am growing worried with each day. I was until recently a college student paying my way through college but once I lost my job I have been able to pay my bills. After I lost my job I successfully entered into a hardship program with Chase and Elan Financial Services where they were able to lower my minimum and my interest rate. My enrollment ended in October and I am still struggling to find work. I spoke to chase and they will try to put me into a 5 year hardship program but Elan Financial Services on the otherhand is not willing to help. I spoke to them yesterdy explained to them my situation and the representative told me to call back today because he had to put my account it deliquency first, he was getting a little impatient said to call back the next day. So I called today and was told that I was no longer elgible for any hardship program because I was already in one last year so I would have to wait nine months to qualify. They have tripled the minimum from what it was during the hardship program and have raised the interest rate 26%. What options do I have available? Thanks,
Welcome to the forum Joe. I don't mean to sound harsh, but you need to at least get a part-time job- something, anything, until you can find a more permanent position. Now that we're approaching the holidays, a lot of companies (especially retail) will be hiring part time. Take advantage of that and start bringing in some income. How much debt are we talking about here? Elan doesn't have to work with you, but I wouldn't give up after being told no once. Call back and you may get someone else that's willing to get you on another payment program until you can finally start paying down your debt.
