    Heyas all,

I got some good advice from here a week or so ago.. so i will try again..

after getting a 3-1 credit report sent to me.. and seeing how dismal it is.. i'm gonna try to see what i can do to fix things.. my credit is dismal cos imoved companies.. and my credit union (Bank of America wouldnt let me open an account when i arrived as I had no credit.. go figure) only reports to one agency.. Experian ..

anyhow.. let me describe a bit of the situation.. then i'd like some advice on what i can do to improve it.

lets start with Experian.. ok.. they at least have all my personal info.. such as addresses and stuff.. however the updated dates for that stuff is either 12/2000 (when i landed) or 8/2001 .. is that normal for it to be not updated in that long ?..its correct (except for my birthdate.. 1 year wrong).

they have all my accounts on it.. wioth what appears otbe pretty correct amounts and payments etc etc.. so not too worried about that..

what i am worried about is the 15 enquiries .. how can i tell which ones i might be able to get removed ? .. i applied for credit at many places wheni first arrived.. part of getting set up in a new country i guess.. my company screwed me on my moving package..

so anyhow.. after rereading all of this.. Transunion has NO infor on me.. Equifax has old out of date info.. and experian is uptodate..

how do i go about fixing this ?.. i'm scared to apply for other credit because if they check my credit reports.. chances are they wont check Experian and i wont get the credit.. just end up with a bunch of inquiries for nothing.

anyone care to help me out ?

    thanks

You say your credit is "dismal", however, from what you're describing, it sounds more like you just don't have any credit, not actuallythat your credit is bad.

First off- If TU has no credit file on you, then your best bet would be to go to a local credit union and open up a savings account, then take out a secured loan with them. Be sure the loadn does not report as secured, and be sure they report to all 3 CRA's. That will get your TU file started, keep the payments on time, and you'll have a nice clean report in 6 months.

Now with EQ and EX, if your birthdate is wrong, just dispute it as such. They should correct it no questions asked. As far as inquiries go, you used to be able to dispute them through creditexpert (for Experian) and 99% would get deleted, however EX has taken that right away from us so I can only suggest you dispute 3-4 inq's at a time via regular mail. I would start with the oldest inq's BTW, those should be the easiest to get rid of.

If EQ is showing out of date information, such as address, phone #, you could always just send them a copy of a utility bill showing your new address, and they should update it.

I think I remember you-- you have the corporate Amex, car loan, etc- correct? I wouldn't bother getting MORE credit at this point... I would just try to get the creditors you currently have to report to TU and to update the info on Equifax. Send each of them a simple letter requesting this. By applying for more credit you will just be increasing the number of inquiries on your reports and you already have too many inquiries.

    yes thats me :)

i have talked with the loan department on thephone.. iwas told they only report to equifax.. do they have to report to TU or anyone else?

I'm gessing theres prolly not a standard letter i can send.. but should i just request it.. or tell them i'll be forced to move to another bank/credit union if they cant help me (which i'd rathernot do..and i'm not even sure if i can do)..

    Thanks for the suggestions :)

They only report to the CRA's they subscribe to. Sending a letter asking them to report to TU won't help you out.

Like I said, find a CU. Make sure they report to all 3 CRA's. Take out a secured loan. Be sure it reports unsecured.

i would however applying ot a CU or Bank involves a credit check doesnt it ?

not to mention i already have a car loan and an unsec loan through my existing CU and that will probably stop me from getting another.. all of the inquiries i have are from trying to get credit at other places.. i dont really want to make that worse.

unless i am missing the picture ?

A credit check for a secured loan?

Why would they need to run a credit check when you're forking over $500 dollars for a $500 loan?

Okay, lets say they do run a credit check, first ask which CRA they pull from. Hopefully it will be TU. That way, you won't add to the 15 other inq's you have on EX, and you'll just have one on TU.

However, like I said, I can't see them running a credit report on you for a secured loan. Also, you said you have 15 inq's on EX, just because you have 15 on that report doesn't mean you have 15 inq's across the board on all three CRA's, so applying somewhere where they only pull from TU won't add to those 15 inq's on your EX report.

Amex should report to all credit bureaus - at least mine does.

BECAUSE THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH IT???

Why does my insurance company do a credit report to "SEE" HOW I DRIVE???

If I was giving the bank a bunch of money...and they wanted to do a credit report...I would take my money and RUN!!!!!!!!!

Ask before you give them ONE PENNY!!!!!!!!

    GEORGE,

Don't you know I "drive" my credit report all over town. I even fill it up at the gas station with FICO points.

In fact, every time you lose FICO points, it's because I'm at the mobil station :)

there is no credit check for a secured loan. i just opened 3 secured loans at 3 different credit unions. all of them gave me the money(which i just handed to them) right there on the spot. it took me 30 minutes to get 3 loans(10 minutes each)!

since you already belong to a CU, join another one. look at http://www.creditunionsonline.com/. just type in your city and state. you'd be surprised how easy it is to be eligible for membership!

    good luck!
