I am just getting started. I have read through the stickies but I really want to make sure that I do this right. My husband and I have 5 credit card accounts in collections. (WaMu, 2 Capital One and 2 Orchard Bank/ Household) I want to arrange settlement for all of them. They are all with collection agencies. Should I even bother trying to get deletion? Or should I just pay them off and then try to get them deleted from my reports through verification? Any thoughts? I love all of the valuable information that is available here, but I am feeling a bit overwhelmed! Thanks!

Ok first thing you need to do is opt-out and delete old outdated personal info from all three of the credit bureaus. If you have not already done so,get a paper copy of your credit report from each bureau. Here is the link to opt-out online.
wwwdotoptoutprescreendotcom.Replace the two dots with a period. You can order your reports online once a year thru annualcreditreport.com.
