OK...maybe I'm blind, but I cannot find a clear thread or post that walks you through how to get started. I'm looking for an over view of the whole process I need to do to acquire and clean up my credit report...can somebody point me in the right direction?
Without further information on what you want to do, here's some basic all-around generic advice on how to start working on your credit: 1 - Pull your credit report. You can get a free copy through annualcreditreport.com. 2 - Review your report for anything that's negative. This includes anything reporting late payments, anything reporting past due, and anything over 7 years old. 3 - For anything negative over 7 years old, immediately contact the CRA (credit reporting agency; TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian) and ask it to be removed. 4 - Go through your negatives one by one and work on them. I know step #4 sounds generic and unhelpful, but there's a lot to consider. Is the CA actively looking for you? Is the CA's information incorrect? Is the debt past your state's SOL for litigation? Has the CA ever contacted you? Is the CA getting ready to contact you for the first time? Give us some more information and we'll be glad to help. But for general-purpose one-size-fits-all information, well, that's a little tough.
