works fine for me. You might have a DNS problem - try 216.239.37.99 for the URL

Thanks for your help so far. I have downloaded the shredder app. Could you explain to me what happened? Sorry to sound so dumb, but I really didn't know that 2 different people could point their browser at the exact same address & get different results!!! This is intriguing to me...

OK - I downloaded and ran the shredder app. restarted my system. Still no Google - "there is no website configured at this address"

Do I need to get the patch from Microsoft?
Sorry this is not specifically a CNet type question... but y'all are always so helpful! (and technically I discovered it while doing credit repair)

    Thanks again!

    Try www2.google.com or www3.google.com

That is the address of their other two servers.

I will repeat: You might have a DNS problem - try 216.239.37.99 for the URL

That means place the numbers in your browser and hit enter - 216.239.37.99

The odds are good your hosts file has been corrupted. You could do a find on your local hard disks for "google.com" and when you see a file called hosts, or lmhosts, remove any entries there. It's avoiding the DNS lookup to resolve to the correct IP address.

Again, if you type in this IP address in your browser and it works - you've got a temporary workaround and way to approach the problem longterm outlined above.

Thanks for all your help. Typing in that # did not work. I'm afraid I don't know what a DSN problem is!!! I get through at www3.google. com.

You probably have been hit with the new Trojan. I got hit last week and google is one of the sites that it messes with. An easy way to check is to go to RUN, type in regedit and return. Go to edit and do a find on s0x. NOTE: that is the letter s, a zero, and the letter x.

If there is a hit, you've been trojaned. Check the various virus scanner sites to see how to fix your machine.

Or you could just go there directly.

Actually more than likelly he isusing a cable company cable modem from a small town. If that is the case contact them and ask them to add google to their cache server.

As dumb as this might sound some of this cable company cable modem services are ran by amateurs.

I suggest you purchase Zone Alarm Pro with Pest Patrol. Also, invest in a good anti-viral program. I wouldn't dare use the web without them (with the excpetion of posting on CreditNet). If Zone Alarm Pro is active while at Credit Net, I cannot post because cookies are disabled and I'm running in stealth mode (other PCs cannot see me or my IP address.
