Hi all, I have the following cards: AMEX Optima Platinum (3,000 CL) AMEX Blue (2,500 CL) Chase Platinum (12,000 CL) Citibank Platinum (7,500 CL) Discover Platinum (7,500 CL) MBNA Quantum (20,300 CL) Household Gold (2,500 CL) Providian Visa (1,250 CL) I will be getting rid of the Providian and Household cards soon, but I was wondering if I should get rid of the Chase card as well? I'm mainly using the Citibank and AMEX cards right now for the rewards points so I'm not using the Chase card that much. I've been keeping it for the high limit (12,000), but my MBNA limit has almost tripled since I got the Platinum Plus card a few years ago and upgraded to Quantum. I know Chase is a very good prime card, but this seems like a dilemma for me right now. Any advice??? Thanks.
Keep the cards with the lowest APR if you carry balances and also you should keep a couple of your older cards due to the fact it helps your fico score..
I would get rid of Household and Providian. I would consider getting rid of Discover. I would combine the two Amex products. I would keep Chase even if you are not using it much. Chase is a good card to have. That would leave you with one Amex product, Chase, Citibank, and MBNA. Not bad at all!
I would get rid of the Household and Providian if they are not your oldest tradelines. I would keep the Chase. I would keep the AMEXs as is (if it was me) but they may consider combining... Steph
I just cancelled the Providian card even though it was my oldest tradeline. I don't think this will hurt my score that much because I got the MBNA, Discover, and Amex cards just a few months after Providian so they have also aged a bit.
