    Hi,

I was wondering which one is better card among :

    American Express® Gold Card
    Optima® Platinum Card®
    Blue from American Express

I read some post ppl want to get blue.

How come no one want to get American Express® Platinum Cash Rebate Credit Card instead of Optima® Platinum Card® which you canget cash rebate also?

Comparing the first (Gold) and the last two (Opt Plat/ Blue), is like comparing apples and oranges. One may personally like apples better than oranges, but it doesn't mean they are comparable. The Gold is a Charge card, while the others are Credit cards. Amex website offer comprehensive info on each and every card product.

Among the 2 Credit cards you mention, the Blue is clearly better. I've posted a comparison between these 2 just a few days ago.

First, it has much less public relations. Second, the APR for the "Plat w/ Cash Rebate" is ~19.5%. You should weigh your expected rebate to see if it suits your needs. Generally, people w/ Prime credit can get cards, whether issued by Amex or not, offering an APR that's ~10% lower. If you intend to buy @ Costco, apply for the "Plat w/ Cash Rebate for Costco members" - this one comes w/ ~18% APR.

As for lowering the APR on an existing Amex product, this requires making a Product Transfer. For the Opt Plat, there are products ranging from 9.9%-17.5% APR. The APR for a Plat w/ Cash Rebate may not go any lower.

Saar, Thank you so much. It's clear up my doubt. I have Amex Gold and I am going to ask for an upgrade to Optima® Platinum Card® as I like the way it looks. Also, I don't want to pay for annual fee for gold $75.00 anymore.

    Thanks!

    Just called Amex

    Hi,

I just called Amex and they told me that I can not upgrade from Gold to Platinum as it's the different plan. They suggest me to apply for Plainum but I am not sure if I will get approved. I don't have any bad remark on my report. Just short of Credit history.

    RE: Just called Amex

As I said those are different product types, and as such, cannot be converted from one to another. It's difficult to advise you since you only provided a vage description of your credit. Generally, when it comes to the top lenders (Amex/ Citi), you may want to give it a try despite the extra inquiry. It's your call.

Thank you so much. I will apply for Platinum Amex next month and will keep you post the results.

    Thanks again.
