Which old accounts (in collections) should I pay first, CC debt or medical bills?

CC's of course. They have the highest interest rate, and are more prone to sue, thus cretaing legal fees. Also, I think Medical is a little easier to deal with. I'd save those until last.

However, what have you done to start your validation process. That may be the best place to start.

Try disputing the medial collections with the CRA's. I have had good success getting them to go away with a simple dispute.

Also, most hospitals will work out monthly payment arrangements with you that you can fit in your budget. But Butch is right, pay the credit cards first.

I am currently paying a hospital debt off in monthly installments at 0% interest. Sweet deal.

I'm concerned about contacting some of my old creditors (e.g. hospitals) because I'm afraid the old debt for a few hundred dollars may turn into several thousand dollars with interest and penalities.
