I got my updated Equifax report today and there is a hard inquiry from DTC-WCI Financial from earlier this month. Anyone know who this is???

    Thanks,
    Ozzy.

That's an idea... but I just have been having trouble with Equifax and inquires lately - they're just not being real helpful, so I thought maybe it would ring a bell for someone... if not, no biggie. =-)

    Ozzyburger,

DTC is soft inquiry. Capital One did it to me once when they increased my Kmart MC credit limit. It won't show up as hard inquiry.

    Thanks, Ron!
I wonder why those little buggers don't list it with the other initials on the last page of your Equifax report, along with AR, etc.??

Anyway, thank you! I was thinking 'oh no.. gotta deal with Equifax and inquiries - AGAIN"... <g>

Wow.. I'm really confused... I did a search on google for WCI Financial and came up with some sort of subsidiary of GE....and a mortgage lender somewhere in Florida.... and now a collection agency was found!

I guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and call Equifax...we have never had anything in collections, so I can't see why a collection agency would be pulling my report... but this is really fishy!!

Gosh, they sure don't make things simple, do they??

Thanks everyone for your help. =-)

This is a soft inquiry used to pre-qualify you for something. MCI (WorldCom) and Juniper hit me with these on equifax recently.

Wouldn't you know i got a pre-approved Cell phone offer, and (nothing from juniper, heh) in the mail.

Thank you everyone (esp. Doc!) for your detective work and in trying to help me figure out who this is.

I bit the bullet and called Equifax. Soon as I said DTC - she said that was someone looking to verify SS#'s and that I didn't need to worry about that inquiry. I assume she meant as far as my score, 'cuz when someone is nosin' around my report, I tend to worry!

She said it could have been MCI Worldcom or WCI is also a collection agency (as was pointed out to me!).

Far as I know I've no unpaid bills, so I guess I'll just wait and see - it happened on the 10th so I assume that if there are any surprises to be had, that it'll happen soon.

    Thanks again, everyone.

i'd put $5 bucks down you'll be pre-approved for a MCI cell phone in the next month :)

    "Pre-approved" to apply...isn't everybody "pre-approved" to apply?

No when you are pre-approved by a DTC or PRM inquiry, by law if your report is the same when you apply, you are guaranteed to get the card. Of course they can twist the multiple bureau thing to their advantage to dis-approve you, but if your ducks are in a row, you will get the pre-approval.

BACK IN THE "OLDEN' DAYS..."PRE-APPROVED" WAS REALLY PRE-APPROVED...
    LETTER--------->VISA $7,500...YOU GOT $7,500...NOT $500!!!

NOW IT'S BACICALLY "PRE-APPROVED TO APPLY"

I guess there are some exceptions...

Update: I called one of the numbers that was posted to see what was up with them pulling my report. I spoke with a super nice woman who spent 20 minutes in vain trying to find some shred of my identity in her computer. No luck. She even checked under my husband 's info just to be sure. Nothing. She suggested calling Equifax and telling them to get the inquiry off my report! (I liked her style..<g>). I asked her if they had other offices - and they did, so I didn't have to call all the numbers that Doc nicely gave me! (thanks again, Doc, for taking the time to do that for me!)

I call Equifax again and explain the situation. This time I am able to get a telephone number out of her, explaining that I've just called across the country and still can't find out what was going on with my report.

So I call this other number and I didn't catch the whole name, but it had something to do with GE Collections.

My little mind starts turning as I'm on hold - we had a 2nd mortgage with GE back in 1995 and it's listing one late on our report and I recently disputed that. While I'm still contemplating that, a woman answers the phone and I explain the situation to her. She kept saying 'we're not WCI Financial'. I said that's fine but Equifax gave me this number. "They must have given you the wrong number". <can you see me rolling my eyes about this time??>.

I then explain the situation to her again and bring to her attention that I did have an account with GE several years ago but it was paid off. She said that's fine but they do nothing with mortgages - just credit cards like Wal Mart. Just for good measure she entered my SS# into her computer and came up with nothing.

So I'm still at a loss, but now I'm just annoyed at the trouble I'm going through to see who wanted MY information. It really shouldn't be this hard.

Just a tidbit of info here - the DTC does imply that they were trying to match up a person and a SS#. According to the woman at WCI Financial, they send the information to the CRA and the CRA must match at least 2 of the 3 listed criteria in order for a report to be pulled. So if they were looking for a Joe Schmoe in ScoobyDoo, Pennsylvania, they might get a report for John Schmoe in ScoobyDoo, Pennsylvania, or a Joe Schmoe in ScoobyDoo, California, since 2 of the 3 criteria would match.

Thanks again, everyone for your help and insights!

    Ozzy.
