I have two AmEx accounts that have been charged off. I want to pay them.

Do I just call AmEx, or is there some special office that I would be better off dealing with? Do I write to them instead?

And what exactly is the wording I want on my credit report - charged off, paid in full?

This is confusing and I want to get it right

    Thanks

How old are the accounts? Are they one your credit report(s) now?

If they are old and do not show, I am told AMEX will accept a full payoff and not make any entry on your credit report. Keep in mind that is hearsay and I am not sure if that is true.

You could always check with their Oasis department to discuss the payoffs.

    Hi Kathi:

I had a conversation with them about 3 years ago regarding a balance I had with them. As credit6949 stated, they were just interested in a pay-off and they would kind of turn the other cheek. I never saw anything on my credit report. I just needed to get a corporate card from my company and they wanted me to pay off my balance before issuing a new card to me.

I currently carry a AMEX Gold as an authorized user, but I'm pretty confident that they would extend me a card if I applied for one (well, once I get my FICO back up over 600, anyway...LOL).
