I defaulted on credit card with Mays. I have been to small claims court twice seeing the attorney they have. First time, he did not seem prepared and had to check with Mays. Second time he did not know if they would accept payments. So, back to court I go. I decided to call Mays and see if I could settle with them direct. I could not as the account was turned over the HMC group. I talked to them and they had no idea I had already been to court. I did a reverse phone number search for the attorney and it is the HMC group. Does this mean the account was sold? Should I have HMC validate that I even owe them anything? I was under the impression the attorney was representing Mays as they are listed as the plaintiff on my summons. Thanks for any advice.
