Why are my scores still so low? HELP!

I started disputing many negative items on my credit reports several months ago and thanks to the information and methods I have learned on this web site, I have been successful at having most of them removed. However, my scores still remain:

    TU: 572
    EX: 544
    EQ: 538

I still have 3 active credit cards, all current and below the limit with a combined balance of $800 right now (total credit limit on all 3 is $1150) but I will be paying off the entire remaining balance next month. There are two 30-day lates in the last year on 2 of them and the other card has a ton of 30, 60, 90's and a 120 and even a 150 on one report from late 2004/early 2005. A goodwill removal letter to FNBM/Credit One Bank didn't work.

I recently opened a Citgo card joint with my wife successfully and got a $600 limit. I am authorized on 2 of my parents AMEX accounts that have been open since 1983 and having $10k+ balances each month that have never been late. I have a student loan with $10,500 balance remaining that has never been late. I have a joint Chrysler car loan that has been complete paid and off and never late.

But here are the bad things I still have and am working on disputing (AGAIN):

    - LVNV Funding collection on TU and EQ (removed recently by EX)
    - MBNA charge-off on TU (removed recently by EQ and EX)
    - Applied Card Bank charge-off on TU and EX (removed recently by EQ)
    - Wachovia Bank charge-off - Paid and Closed - Disputed and Validated

Does anyone know what I can do to get my scores up? Please help! My wife has excellent credit, but we do not share any credit cards because I never wanted to mix up my bad credit with her good credit. If she got one of her Citibank cards with a $15k limit that is always paid in full each month and never late, would that be any help?

Please advise, and thanks for your help so far!

Scores iz funny, but I can tells ya what I know from experience:

Lates hurt. Don't matter if they yesterday, or 3 years ago. I know alotta you gonna disagree - but that's how I feel, and what I've seen on my own report.

Time helps scores. It might take awhile too ta get your score up.

800 balance on 3 cards with a 1100 limit is kinda high :) Even spread on 3 cards. That can be hurtin too...BUT YAY on gonna pay it off soon. That's good to pay off stuff, and I can't predict how much, but that might give you a couple points.

That stuff that's left - is anything wrong with the way it's listed? I'm not asking ya to list it here - and even if ya did - I'm not the little expert that's good at doin that :), but if ya read the stuff here, you'd know what to look for to see if it's listing right.

About the Citibank card - it could help as long as she keeps da balance low, and the age is good...but remember - getting rid of the lates and other stuff might get ya where ya needs to be.

I just faxed a new goodwill letter to the 3 credit card companies practically begging them to remove some or all of the lates, especially to Credit One Bank / First National Bank of Marin where I have a 120 and 150 late.

Has anyone had any success with this? My lates were truly late but I wrote a sob story about how I was just graduating college and looking for a job and in the past year I have demonstrated more responsibility and I really really need their help. Doubt it will work but who knows.

Thanks to everyone's help and insight on here over the past few months, I have cleared many negatives on my reports and today was approved for an Orchard Bank credit card. This is a HUGE step forward for me. I still have a lot of work to do, but I am trying to do things the right way. The system works! For those of you just getting started, I was in your position only a few months ago and I have seen tremendous results -- collections removed, charge-offs removed, etc. Keep up the good work!

Congratulations on yer success so far!

With the goodwill letters, me and alotta others have gotten rid of lates with letters.

Sometimes it depends on the bank, the person you get that reads your letter, how long you've been a customer, and how much they value yer business.

That's not to say they won't do it - but sometimes it's luck :)
