why do ca's keep selling this account

    I have a default account that is now on its 3rd ca in less than 2 years.Why the quick selling of this account?I have never responded to any of their calls or mailings.

    See and all you need do is send them a validation or c&d letter and if the oc keeps sending the trade line off to ca's come on back I'm sure someone will find you a letter for that as well.

    2 years isn't all that quick. I've seen accounts which had 3 CAs within a WEEK!

    I wouldn't even knew about the other two, except CA #1 started reporting two months after CA #3 contacted me.

    Each CA probably views this account as unlikely to pay, so they keep selling it at a deeper discount each round.

    Is one debt being reported twice on your credit report grounds for having both of them removed?

    This gets a bit confusing, but...

    The OC (original creditor) and 1 collection agency can be listed at the same time. The OC must note the account "sold or transferred", and must report a $0 balance on the account.

    If a collection agency enters the account on your credit report, and then sells the account to another collection agency, the first CA must remove their account from your credit reports.

    These are the laws and industry practices, but often you will find they are not followed.

    If you have two collection agency listings for the same account, dispute the older one, as it should be removed.
