I'm trying to get a handle on why or when some collection agencies will report and others don't. Has anyone formed any generalizations about this issue from their own experience?

I have one CA listed on my report from Sprint PCS. OC is not reporting.

I have 5 or 6 bank charge offs (OC's are reporting), all these accounts are being handled by CA who send letters but none are reporting (yet). I have had charge offs in the past that were never reported by the CA, only the OC.

Yet there are some people who say they get both the OC and CA reporting on their cr's.

Some people say CA listings show up right away, my wife's been getting letters for months from some CA's and they're not on her reports.

    Any thoughts or comments?

    What else - money.

If my recollection is correct, it costs money to report information to the credit bureaus, in the form of some time of contract that provides for two way information exchange.

Also, with the MANY different laws governing credit reporting, I imagine many of them don't want to be bothered with actually knowing the law and wisely forego reporting any derogatory information.
