Why not prove my BK to the CRAs?

    I know the theory, but...

I filed a 5-year C13 in April. It will come off 2 years after I'm out.

Other than 2 3-year-old 30-day lates, my credit was clean up until the day I filed.

I have 17 positive trade lines, several of them closed within the last 6 months.

I BKed 11 unsecured and 3 (not reaffirmed) secured lines, which would require me deleting 45 trade lines to get rid of the BK effects.

All of the errors are due to the BK, and could probably be cleaned up rather well by just proving the BK. These include: lates accruing for each month of BK, balances inside BK, new "BK" accounts created, leaving charged off accounts with balances outside of BK, backdated chargeoffs not showing in BK at all, legitimately closed accounts being rolled into BK with the open accounts.

My biggest concern is the ability to buy some small place to live in 2-3 years. My equity in this place should be enough by then to put something down, but not with chargeoffs and junk showing. I'm thinking that the best way to clean this up is to prove the BK, then use the automatic stay to leverage the CRAs.

    Tell me why I'm wrong.

Don't send them anything. Dispute everything based on inaccuracy. If you send them proof of the bk then it will be harder to delete later.

    Never give them anything.

They almost asuredly have SOMETHING wrong for every entry on your report...

Never send documentation of BK to a CRA. This is an absolute rule. If you do, you will have no hope of getting any accounts removed that were included in the BK.

The above advice is very good. In August TU sent a letter to me stating they needed "additional information" concerning my BK. They wanted me to send in copies of my BK papers. I just tossed it out. A few weeks later, I get my updated report from TU. BK-Deleted and 3 out of the 5 accounts includedin the BK deleted. Never give them anything. And by the way, all the accounts have an inaccuracy in them one way or another. Round 2 heating up.

I totally agree. Do not under any cirmcumstances send them your BK papers. I got the same request from Equifax and I ain't sending them $H!t. They are suppose to have my response by 9/24 and I will not give them amunition to make it harder to correct their mistakes. Take the advice of the board and don't do it.
