Why would the CA do this?

I just got a letter, CRRR, from CMI. I sent them validation letter last month, no response. I checked the CR's at the end of the 30 days, and they had deleted from one, and updated the other to paid (this is an unpaid account) So, I sent estoppel this week (which they haven't received yet) I was hesitant about waking sleeping dogs, but now am glad I sent it. The letter today said that they contacted the OC, who was searching the archives for the original paperwork (that should have a signature, btw) So, why would they delete from 1, and update to paid, if they were still working on getting the paperwork? Would they have just reinserted, and updated again to unpaid? Can they do that? (of course, they can now that I've sent them another letter, I'm sure.) I've already disputed w/ the CRA's as they only have 21 days in my state to verify. 2 days are already down, and they probably just got my CRRR. They can't verify w/ out violations!
