This is my first post and I am looking for some insight. A little background info: I recently received a copy of my credit reports from all three credit agencies. Upon looking them over, I disputed a number of TL's on them. Along with these disputes with the CRA's I sent Validation/Dispute letters to the CA's in question. One already sent a letter saying they will remove the TL... Today my mother called saying that someone that presented himself as a lawyer called my sister and left a message on her machine saying that this message was for me and that I needed to call by by 10 pm. She said his name sounded funny and that it sounded kind of suspicious. Do I call the number back or let it fly. This is the only reason I could think that a lawyer(or so called) would be looking for me. Please help. Thanks in advance.
something sounds fishy here?? I would check your states bar association for that attorneys name to see if he is ligit first., his profile is usually listed and would have a phone number see if it matches with the # he left. I dont know of any attorney collecting a debt that would need to discuss a case that late at night. if the attorneys name cant be found let it ride until they call back again it may be CA misrepresenting the issue which is a violation
My mother actually lives in another state then I do, and so does my sister. Another thing was that a 1-800 number was given for call back. How would I go about checking the Bar for that?
Im not sure how to do this in your state but I call the phone company 800 directory info line and ask for that attorneys name and see if they have a listing if not ask the toll free directory for the name of the CA you think it might be and see if they match. the state bar assoc attorney profile page usually lists their contact # better yet for kicks call the # see how they answer the phone then you will know
Do NOT call from your home phone. They can get your phone number with their (fancy) caller ID, even if you block it first! Either go to a pay phone, or use a calling card so they get the phone number of the calling card instead.
