As I was checking messages, I came across this:

"Collect call from (sounded like an operator) Frank (different voice). A few seconds of silence, then, a taped recorded message stating "this is not a sales call" and then gave the OC's company name.

I know CA's cannot do this, but can OC's?

FDCPA prohibits Collectors from contacting debtors in any way where the debtor incurs charges, like collect calls.

FDCPA does not apply to OC's. Call THEM collect and see if the caller is a CA passing themselves off as the OC - they do it all the time.

Did not leave a number on the message. However, caller ID picked a number up. Of course, a reverse search did not show a company. Fairly sure this is a CA since an OC will usually leave a number to call.

If you post the number, someone may recognize, or give them a Cnet slam. Don't call them yourself from your home phone.
