So we recieved it in the mail today... I bought one with all 3 bureau's on it.

It show's 13 separate collections from Checkrite. All her mothers from her and my wifes joint account when my wife was around 21, 5 years ago. Two of those seem to be still unpaid with the rest of them paid.

I'm going to dispute the 2 unpaid ones... should I also dispute the 11 other ones even though their paid??

Her name may have been on the account, but my wife's signature was on NONE of the checks.

Do they have to show her name signed on the checks? Or is just her name on the account in which her mother signing the bounced checks make it right for them to put them on my wife's credit report?

If they can't show proof of the bounced checks that were paid, do they have to take them off the report too?

Also there's an account on here that supposedly was opened back in 10-02??? Went dilenquent on 01-03 and we supposedly paid on 05-03???

Sherman ACQ???? Who the hell are they? 30 Day Account... what???

WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT THIS IS?

I believe that if her name was on the account, then she's responsible for the checks no matter who signed them. Paid collections aren't much better than unpaid collections as far as credit score goes. I think your first step would be to dispute all of them with the CRA. If you're lucky they'll just go away. If not, personally I might try a goodwill letter to the CA... explain that the bad checks were written by your wife's mother and since they are paid ask them nicely to remove the negatives from your wife's report. Failing that, then maybe try the nutcase letters.

As far as the account you don't recognize, I'd do the same thing... dispute it with the CRA. If that doesn't work, then try a nutcase letter.

    HTH,

In my experience, Checkrite tradelines will come off with a dispute... if that doesn't work send validation and then dispute again.

It's been 5 years so shouldn't they be removed as the reporting period is only 5 years.

Since when is the reporting period 5 years?>? unless of course they live in NY, but then the 5 yr limit only applies to paid accts.

So I think I have it right but lemme make sure.

First thing I need to do is send a certified letter to the collections agencies requesting validation?

Then when I get the green cards back... send letters to the 3 credit reporting agencies disputing the stuff on the credit reports?

    then what?

You got the starting point! Use the sample validation letters found on this site. Do simple disputes with the CRAs such as not mine or do not recognize.

Find one of LB's posts and click on the link to What is Validation, and Humblemarc's post.

Butch's what is validation is very in depth. IMHO Humblemarc's is an excellent starter.

    Good luck!

I JUST WENT THROUGH THIS AND HAD SUCCESS!!!

My signature on 2 checks but it showed on Husbands CR.

I have a name & number to the man who reports to CRA and I called him, he said that he would delete as soon as he receives dispute. I called back last week to se if he received the CRA dispute and he said that it has been deleted from my husband's and my CR. If you would like the # please let me know BUT you should dipute it.

    GoodLuck

most check collections are based on prev address (if so) and if you dispute away all prev addresses as first step (always 1st step), then dispute the collect's they'll go away (most cases).

I lost about 4-5 collects this way.

get rid of the old addresses, they are binding via those fields..
