She has a Providian card that had about a $1,000 debt on it. I'm not sure when things went wrong with her paying it, but somehow this outfit called Allied began calling her to set up some kind of whacky payment plan where she'd pay them 3 months worth of payments at a time. Well, we kept getting the Providian bills in the mail every month with a "late fee" and an "over the limit fee" tacked on. I'm really gonna get down & dirty with Providian this afternoon because they now say their collections dept. has taken back over the account. We're not disputing the fact we owe on the acct. and we have shown some headway in paying down the debt, but something seems really "fishy" with this deal between Providian & Allied and the fact that all these fees keep showing up. Like I said, the original debt was just over $1,000 and now the balance is over $2,000, yet she's been paying about $50 a month for over a year. Something ain't adding up right! UPDATE: Yes, now I am disputing that debt! She has dug up all the old papers she could find, and I have in my hand a monthly statement where it shows a $1,458.92 payment received on 5/17/01, which payed off the entire balance, although they tacked on a $29 late fee. She did a check over the phone for that payment. I called a twice today and got the major runaround, and even hung up on! I'm ready to take this to court! Where should I take this next? Dispute it on the CRA's website? Hire a lawyer? Any advise is greatly appreciated!
