An Employee asked me this question today. He has a CA collecting on debt that was reported from a Storage Company. He moved here from New Jersey and he works for me. Ok he left a refrigerator and microwave in the storage, and the company kept the merchandise and sent him to collections for 3 months of nonpayment about $400.00. He wants to know Is the Storage Co the OC? and are they bound by the FCRA? eventhough they aren't reporting the debt. The CA is the one reporting the debt. I told him to draft a dispute letter to the Storage Company asking them what was done with the merchandise, what did they sell it for and why wasn't it deducted from the bal they sent to CA.
