However, when the internet became popular and companies wanted to advertise their website, it didn't make sense for Visa to advertise and then expect people to remember that their web address was http://26.76.77.0 (or whatever their IP is). Therefore, they invented domain names. Each domain name is associated with an IP address in order for the users of the internet to "find" it more easily.
