for a USAA Platinum card. In the past 6 months I have raised my score nearly 100 points. For any military people interested, they checked Equifax which I had a 668 score. Experian is higher and I hoped they would check that because I didnt think 668 would be good enough but low and behold it was. I got a credit limit of 5000 dollars. This is the first time I got a card without paying major fees or getting a lousy credit limit. Thanks to everyone on the board for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

No military affiliation is required to get their credit cards. It is only required for their insurance services.

stringy 27, I too use USAA. You may want to open a checking and savings with them as well. That is if pre-approved car loans are something you may want. Their current offer $30,000 with 4.9% up to 72 months. Plus they will over allow up to $33,000 on that loan. That is for buying a new 03 car/truck.
    Something to think about.
And I have nothing but praise for USAA and their services.
    FWIW, Paul

Yea, your right. I have had Checking, Savings and Insurance with them for about 2 years now and they have been the best. As far as negatives, I still have a collection with Papa Johns pizza and to be honest, I have no idea why so I am in the process of working on that one. I had two 30 day lates with Bankfirst and one 30 day late with Providian and both were about two years old.

Do you have any other cards with limits like that one? I am trying to decide whether or not to apply, I have a similar score, and I don't want to get a low limit.

    Thanks

My experience with USAA has been that you don't have to have a checking account to get the offer for a car loan. I only had insurance and a credit card with them when they made the offer. They also have a special program where the interest rate(purchase and cash advance) is prime +1% with a $50 annual fee.

We too got approved for their USAA CC after having their auto insurance at 12.5%....They gave us a lousy 300 limit card so I closed it out. I have a 5400.00 card with Chase and don't understand why some companies will loan you thousands and some loan you hundreds. What is the use of applying for cards when they want to give you a lousy 300 limit?!!! Then you get an inquiry and that hurts your credit! What is a person to do?

The web address is www.usaa.com. You will need to make a user ID and password. This is the only card that I have with a high credit limit. All others that I have received have been lousy 300-500 dollar cards. It is great to see that I can finally be trusted again by creditors. LOL...
