I applied 10 days ago for the Amex Costco cash back platinum. Got my card today for $2000 cl and 1.99% BT until 3/03. I called and told them I originally requested a $5k cl, and I would need that because I was wanting to do a BT of $4k from a Visa card. I was put on hold for 30 seconds and the rep said my limit was increased to $5k!!! My % rate is set at 9.99%. All this on a 699 EQ score w/ 1 inquiry and no baddies. 6 months ago, all I could get was a Cap1 card (they were a good starting point!) Thanks to this board, I have multiplied by credit limits and cards by 670%

    Congratulations!!!!

Why oh why won't they pull EQ for me?!?!?

Did you apply online or in the store for the card? Do you have to have a membership. (I know nothing about this store, I just know there is one by the house.) Is it like Sam's club?

Does AMEX have a platinum card for people who make less than $100,000 a year...yet have a decent credit line and rate? I applied blindly yesterday, and found out that it has a minimum income requirement. Even if I get approved (though I bet I wont be), I'm not sure I want the card. It also has a $395 annual fee. My score's 721 with no derogs

Congratulations! What state are you in?
They pull EX for me. :( Which means no card given the derogs on my report.

Costco is exactly a Sam's store except I think they are more in the western region.

anyone can upgrade to platinum card these days, they dont care, they just want their $395 per year. Amex is hurtin for business.

seriously. Everyone i know with an amex has been barraged with platinum charge upgrade offers, but quite frankly, the platinum card means very little status wise any more so unless the benefits are worthy to you....

We have Costco's on the east coast - in Brooklyn and Queens (New York) and in various places in New Jersey.

You really do get a lot of extras with the amex plat card. Excellent upgrades in choice hotels, extra late checkout, free breakfasts & formal teas, use of Northwest airlines frequent fliers club with free drinks and snacks, a concierge to make restaurant reservations, a nice glossy magazine. It is expensive, but it always feels good using it & the travel agents have been very helpful. You also get free extras from nice shops like Ferragamo. LIke most upscale products it isn;t necessary, but it can make life more enjoyable.

azur, it is like Sam's Club, but where I live it's bigger and better. I first applied over the phone with Amex, but they 'lost' my application. After waiting for two weeks just in case, I reapplied in the store. Usually they provide instant approval, but in my case I was told to wait 24 hours and then call Amex. I couldn't wait and drove straight home and called. They said I was approved and would recieve my card in a week, but declined to tell me what my limits were. Yes you do have to have a membership, but you are not charged a Amex fee for the card at all. And because it is Platinum, it has some additional benefits.

azur, one thing I forgot to say, they offer a variable cash back on anything you purchase, not just on Costco items. In addition, you don't get your rebate back until February of the following year, but you can opt out for cash instead of merchandise credit-Costco will just cut you a check instore if you would like the $$ instead.

Store. I wouldn't recommend anything else because Amex has to verify with Costco that you have a membership first. Basic membership costs $44 (if memory serves...) but because of this there is no fee on the Platinum card.

Thanks, maybe this is my way into the door of Amex.

I will have to wait a few months, maybe until the end of February and try for the Costco card.

This would be one of the cards. I don't make $100k and chose this card because it is a Platinum card (although it doesn't have all the same benefits as the card you applied for) But the BT and go-to rates are good, cash back plus carry-forward balance benefits are nice, and the credit limits start at $2k and go up to $100k. One thing I was told though, 2 Amex reps told me that you cannot have any other inquiries on your report from the last 30 days.

Kansas, near Missouri. I'm wondering though, since it is pulled through Costco, and they tend to use EQ (their premiere charge card is a Household Bank card) that they may pull EQ if you apply in the store(?)

Thanks dep! I'm still here. Lots of rumors, but nothing hitting us yet. I'm really glad to hear you're still around! How bad were you hit? My team was cut in half last October. Still understaffed and overworked, but happy to have a job.
