    Dear Sir/Madam

Can you please provide me with:

    the current outstanding balance,
    the current amount overdue,
    and the current settlement figure.

Can you please also supply a copy of the agreement: payment terms and conditions included.

Finally, please respond within 30 days with this information and please provide the name and address for future correspondence.

    Thank You

I'd say neither, but there's a lot of context that's missing.

Are you replying to a Collection Attempt, a letter from Collection Agency, did you find something on your credit report, are you just curious?

Where are you and where do you want to go?

    What "series of validation letters"?

You need to send one and only one. Any validation letters you send after the 30 day period following their initial contact with you would be out of date and could end up hurting you later down the road.

Send them one and only one and then the ball is in their court. They don't have any legal obligation to answer your demand but may not lawfully move forward with any further collection activity until they have provided you with the demanded obligation.

If they do anything at all to collect the debt then the next step is to put the ball back in their court by filing a federal lawsuit on them for illegal continued collection activity.

Keep careful records of any contact with you whatever and when you have them on a few violations then is the time to sue them.

Any other course of action simply wastes time.

Sending a series of validation letters is pure foolishness. The idea was conceived by somebody who hadn't the foggiest idea of what to do or how to go about it. Conceived out of pure exasperation and lack of something better to do.
