okay......i do hope that someone can help me with this; i have a charged off account with Emerge mastercard in the amount of $596......i just spoke with Jefferson Capitol (their in house CA) and the rep. told me that for full payment on this account they would remove all deragatory information from the account......and that with full payment the account would NO LONGER BE A CHARGE OFF!
is this just a CA trick......can they really remove the charge off status?
Please help, I am online waiting on some advice!

Get it in writing, Go to the letters section and find a good template, cover all bases and ONLY if you get it in writing should you do anything. Watch out for the way it is worded, do not give them any loopholes. You have the money and they want it. Make them work for it.

If they did offer that, I'd make damn sure that I had it in writing first to CYA.

Great....thanks alot, they act like they cannot send that type of letter in writing until "AFTER" they receive the payment. I almost fell for that crap!

I did a settlement for deletion when I was getting close to closing on my home. They gave me the same "I can't give you the letter until you pay" wording. Fortunately, the CA's office was only 20 minutes away and I drove over there and reviewed the letter before handing over the $$. I showed her the cashier's check for the amount we agreed on, but didn't give it to her until I was sure the letter met my satisfaction. Too bad it can't be like that all the time.

i would up the ante a little and not pay in full. i would only offer half - but do what you need to as long as it gets fixed. have it in writing upfront. have them draft the agreement on their letterhead w/their signature (no copy or stamp). when you receive it, sign it - keep the original and send them a copy w/payment. thats how i would recommend you do it.

OHHHHHHHHHHHH I would be careful about handing over ANY amount of cash here! They may take it and run and leave your CR with the sh*ts!! Get it in writing 1st is my opinion. Then, pay up.
