I get home tonight, and in the mail is a letter telling me they are dropping my rate from 14.9 to 5.9 for Balance Transfer and new purchases until 11/2002! (Doesn't cover purchases I already made, unfortunately). No BT fees either. That is great! I almost called earlier today to transfer the balance on my Providian 24.9 over to my new Cap 1 Plat 14.9, but left my info at home. Good thing, now I can BT to 5.9% and throw Providian in a drawer! Anyone else get this, or is this something they ordinarily give after 6 months? I'm ecstatic considering Providian was all I could get 2 yrs ago. 5.9% for the next 10 months will really help, and give me a lot of incentive to get my balance paid off before then. danrs
Citibank routinely offers 5.9 or 6.9 on balance transfers. There are some variations in these offers. Sometimes its for the length of the balance, other times for set periods. Be careful not to combine the BT with any substantial existing balance though. If you do, you will get a great rate on the BT but you'll get soaked on your pre-existing purchase balance which continues to be charged at the standard APR. All payments will be appied first to the transfer then to the balance charged at the higher rate. The interest continues to compound on the higher APR balance until the BT is completely paid and this isn't worth it. Best to pay off the card before going for the transfer.
yah keep working on them, i think my real APR for citi is 5.9% with 5.9BT for life (no fee). Remember if you are going to use your BT quite charging on the citi card completely..
