    Hi everyone!
It has been a long time since I needed to pick your brains. I am hoping someone can refresh my memory as to what my next best move is! On July 10th, I received a letter from a collection lawyer. It was dated on June 28th, but I didn't get it in the mail until the 10th and it was not sent certified or anything. As there was a lot going on for me that month, I completely forgot to send a validation letter. On 8/2, I got a Writ of Summons for the amount they say I owe. That same evening, I fired off a validation email and also sent the letter CRR. It must have sat at the PO for a few days as they didn't sign for it until Aug 11th (the address is only a couple of towns over so I know they would have gotten the letter in 1-2 days).

The debt that they claim I owe is from First USA Bank. The only CC I had with First USA had a Date of Last Activity of over 6 years ago and the statute of limitations in my state is 3 years for CC.

The Writ of Summons calls for me to request a hearing by the first Tuesday in September. I have not done this yet, but figure this is probably what I should do. Other than requesting the hearing, what do I do? Do I just sit tight and wait to hear from them? Do I go this by myself or should I pony up and get a lawyer? The amount they say I owe is about $2500, but with fees they say it is $3200.

    Any advice is appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Gillian
