I just recently pulled mmy report form Experian and they have all these wrong addresses for me. Well actually they are screwed up variations of my previous addresses. There are at least 15 entries that are wrong... I've only had 3 addresses in my life.

What impact does this have on my report and what can I do about it?

You can try to dispute them... Usually though I've been told we report every address that we've ever been told you've used.

It doesn't hurt to try to dispute them.

I just called Experian and they told me which creditors reported those wrong addresses. I just stressed that I have no idea where these addresses came from and then they said that they will remove them and update my report within 10 days.

I didn't think it would be that easy.....does this do any good for me?

    Maybe.

If the credit furnishers (your CC, loan, etc.) have the wrong address and report it routinely, it will go back on your CR.

Now that you know who has the bad address info, you could contact them and let them know of your correct address - IF it's a positive TL.

If it's a negative TL, it *could* work in your favor that your address doesn't line up.

Well the creditor that furnished that wrong address was Citibank.... and don't have a very good track record with them....I have 3 charge-offs with them.

SO in this case I should just sit back and let stuff quite possibly happen positively?

I guess I should introduce myself in a new topic since I'm new here....

The ONLY thing I have found that Experian is easy about is getting bad addresses and other personal information removed. They usually remove them the same day you call. (Now you can dispute a few of those items online, but not name and address.)

In my experience, CSC (Equifax affiliate) will actually check your address dispute with a random creditor. I'm not sure what TransUnion does, but I've never had a problem getting addresses removed there either.

The problem with scrambled addresses isn't just that there are errors, but that they may actually sell them to CC companies who will mail credit card offers to them. So if your doctor leaves off an apartment number, and the postman is sloppy, someone else in the complex could get your CC offer. (Of course this could happen anyway.)

Not to mention that Scum CA's could use them to send information about accounts which are allegedly yours, which may include information like your SSN, to those incorrect addresses.

EX was listing a wrong address as my primary address for 5 years, despite sending me my reports for over 2 years, at my correct address. Just because one company, even after being notified through their attorney, refused to stop reporting the wrong address as my address. Thankfully, their own fraud got them knocked off, and miraculously, the next month, my primary address was correct, isn't that amazing... I wonder who was keeping the wrong address alive...
