I had a problem with my previous landlord. When I decided to move out, I called them in advance. Unfortunately they forgot to ask me to formally sign the 30-day notice and I was not aware that the notice has to be a written one. After the move-out, I received a final bill including the cleaning fee(~$200) plus one more month rental(~$1500). I paid the cleaning fee and explained to them that I did notice them in advance, but they just ignored it and transferred the case to a debt collector. Of course, I feel I was framed, and refused to pay. Now, the collector put a total $1700 debt on my credit report. In my point of view, first of all, I have paid $200 (it was cashed by the landloard already), the debt amount is wrong. Secondly, the rest of bill is questionable as I did notice my landloard, and it was their responsibility to go through the move-out process with me after my verbal notice. I don't know if I could dispute with the credit report bureau, or just go to a samll claim court? Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks!
Can someone help US with this situation? I have the same type of situation hanging on my CR. I was laid off of my job in NC, and had to move back to GA. I was living in an $800 a month townhouse, and they never sent a final bill. I know they kept my deposit, because of some "remodelling" I had done downstairs...just a little red paint on the walls. Couldn't stand the white walls anymore.LOL How would I go about challenging this?
