In 2006 I had a magazine subscription show up on my credit card. I did not order these magazines. I called the company to try to stop sending the magazines and stop charging me for them. To make a long story short, I neglected to pay the charges because the magazine company was supposed to be taking care of all this. Now I have a 4 month delequency on my credit report. I ordered a copy of the credit card statement and the statement has the wrong name on it. My name is John S. Davis but the statement has Iays S. Davis on it. My question is this, is this bogus information grounds to have this deleted from my report? if so how do you go about the procedure? What is the first thing to do. I called the credit card company and they cant understand how this can happen but cant delete anything unless it is a banking error. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks John
Contact the credit reporting agencies in writing and dispute the inaccuracy. They must conduct a re-investigation and they will give you the results in 30 days. Send a letter to the creditor and inform them of your argument. Make sure you get their FCBA address. Moreover, ask them to "charge-back" the costs incurred from the magazine subscription insofar as you didn't authorize them.
