I was wondering...I am not scheduled to begin paying my student loans until May 2004. But what if, let's say, I had some extra money laying around (yeah right!) and I wanted to put some of that against my balance to lower the principal before the interest kicks in. If I did that, would I be obligated to start making regular payments even though I'm not supposed to technically until 2004? Thanks.

No, maying payments now would not put your loans in repayment status. I knew folks in law school that did this.
