The board is picking up, and a LOT of newbies are jumping on. Many are making the, all to familiar mistake of posting TOO MUCH information about your issue, all in one place. In recent months it has become especially important to redact information which might connect you to your specific issue. THESE BOARDS ARE WATCHED LIKE A HAWK! Especially by larger firms like Sherman, NCO, etc.. Face the reality and realize there are even collectors on this board pretending to be your friend. Be especially leery of anyone who privately emails you looking for information about your issue. If you're not sure about someone, ask someone you can trust. When in doubt pay attention to the number of posts a responder has and how long they've been here, and how recent has their activity been. With a little work you can spot trolls rather easily actually. No OC or CA full names, addresses or account numbers. No DC names. No specific amounts, but instead general amounts, $100-$150. No specific dates unless it becomes critical to your issue. Just use your judgment gang, but do be careful. This is a publically accessible board. Don't forget.
Butch is spot on. And, this isn't a recent happening either. Do a search for a post titleed, "this board is being watched" by LKH and, this post from ttowns. http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32647 Not everybody out there has your best interest at heart.
Hi all, Just wanted to get back on the page. I have been reading this and other boards for some time now but wanted to chime in so as not to be confused with a troll when I need help down the road. For a while the board was so slow that I just quit coming to it. Would like to add that this was my very first credit board and the good info I received here saved me a lot of problems. The things I learned saved my sanity and let me see light at t he end of the tunnel. Kept me from making a lot of mi$takes! thanks Lin
What Butch said!! He knows what he's talking about, and he's been here and some other boards quite a while.
Hoping to buy a small house and decided to start following up on credit issues again, amazed at how large the group has grown. In a group this size there is bound to be a few people working on the other side of the fence. I love the general guidelines ... As always Butch is still on the mark.
Most old timers heed the advice of mister Butch. For newbies, it is an important reminder. Sometimes they make mistakes by going to quickly and being too trusting. Do not divulge too much information.
I agree with Butch and at the same time I see a decline in posting as opposed to three - four years ago. Back then you had to Bump your post, now hell I cam come back after an hour and still be the last poster.. Hmm. What a shame. This board has helped me tremdously but like others I've moved on in my credit endevours. Thanks PBF or whatever the heck your name is. Jake
This board and all the others too, so take butch's advice to heart for ALL the forums you go to. If you need to know who to trust, take a look at the hall of fame thread, and also just use your instincts. Usually your gut feeling is right. AGAIN, do not post personal information, here or anywhere else. They will find you.
Happy anniversay Butch I see you have been here 3 years this month giving good advice, thanks for all your help.
Although I just lurked and didn't post for a long time, I remember when Butch started posting. I was reading (or trying to) the entire board. But I never made it, gave up, and started posting and following more current posts. Happy Anniversary, Butch!!
