I wanted to say a hearty "thank you" to Creditnet in general and all the members who, directly and indirectly, helped me by sharing their experiences on their credit journeys. I wanted to share a little bit of my own journey and my ultimate success in being able to close on my first home today. I'm hoping that it will give anyone who is new at this a little hope for themselves. Ten years ago, in my early 20s, I never imagined that I would EVER be able to buy my own home. My husband had walked out on me and my two toddlers, pregnant with our third...taking all of the rent and bill money for that month...leaving me with a teacher's salary to take care of my children. No child support (in fact, by now, he's 30K behind...but that's another story). I had tried CCCS and eventually ended up filing for BK7 (at THEIR advice). There were collections left and right dotting my reports, late pays on credit cards that my (now) ex-husband had gotten without my knowledge, in my name, and run up to the limits...it was a horrible mess. My goal was to eventually be able to buy a home for me and my children, instead of continually throwing money away on rent. So after we were stabilized for a few years, I began searching the Internet for options and help. I joined CreditNet in November of 2001...and fairly soon after that began repairing my badly damaged credit reports. What a God-send! Within a little less than a year, I had my reports cleaned as well as they could be, I had a few credit cards in my own name, a car loan, and 98% of my report was looking really wonderful. I then started the process of searching for a mortgage company. I got an FHA rate of 6.5% (we locked before the FHA rates dropped to 5.8%, but that's okay), the seller paid some of the closing costs, and I paid the remainder. All in all, I brought a little over 2K to the table today, signed my name about a kajillion times, and today I own a home (well, a mortgage anyway LOL). Patience, persistence, and prayer...those three things were key in achieving my goal. If I can do it, any of you can. Good luck and God bless.... Thanks again, Future1966
Congrats! Your persistance paid off in the end! I love reading the success stories- one day I hope to have one of my own.
What are you talking about??? You've ALWAYS had a home. It's the place you are when you and your three wonderful children are together. So you see, you've always been home. Now you just have a house now to live and grow in as a family. So now you have the opportunity to make your house, your HOME. Congratulations on your castle. And even more congratulations on being a wonderful mother and person. Wow! That situation would drive most people mad. I can already tell that your three kids are going to become wonderful adults because of the teacher and parent they have.

Congrats future!! Your hard work, persistance & patience has paid off. It is terrific to hear success stories like yours. DH & I stared this journey March 11, 2003. Prior to that we thought there was no chance to purchase a home in the next 2-3 years and now with the help of CN and a few other boards we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. We will be able to purchase a home in the early fall of this year. Thank you for taking the time to post your story!! Enjoy your new home!! paw67
Congratulations. You've done a wonderful job and should be proud of yourself. If you can get something from your ex, or get him put away, go for it. But most of all, enjoy your new home.
