I am disputing an account with a collection agency. They did not update my three credit reports to reflect that the account was in dispute. As a side question, is there any stipulation on how long they can take before they notify the CRA's that the account is in dispute? Anyway, assuming they did mark the account in dispute, is there any stipulation on how long they can continue to mark the account in dispute? I mean, if they were not able to validate it, could they list the account as being "in dispute" for 5 years as long as they didn't contact me about it?
