This is the direct line - Discover's Retention dept.

They said the computer determines monthly each cardholder's eligibility for new offers. All you have to do is call Retention and see if they can offer you anything, such as a permanent APR cut.

The rep was very friendly and actually gave me some tips.

Can you please elaborate? What do they run CR for? Why was your initial APR 19.99% - their published APR is 12.99% or so.

"Repricing" is normally the inhouse code for "Retention". I suspect the # you've posted is another toll-free access to Retention. But that's just me speculating.

    Thanks,

Discover Card jacked my rates up to 22.99% because of some crud they were reporting to the credit bureaus (18 90 day late pays)

Everything fixed on TU report (the one they pull for me) as of this month. Called wanting my rates dropped and they forwarded me to some dept (probably retention dept) she told me all they could currently offer me was 21.99%. But she would change it to that and she gave me the number to the repricing dept, which is the one she says runs the credit reports. Called them and after giving them hell they agreed to rerun my credit report...told me to check back in a week. I did they changed it to 19.99%...I told them that was unacceptable I had a visa at 12% didn't need a discovercard at 20%, the rude MF on the phone offered to go ahead and close the account for me I said don't be ridiculous I'll wait til my BT goes thru and hung up on him.

the bastards also ran my credit report TWICE

Hey - I just called the number at the top of this topic, and lowered my Discover rate from 17.99% to 9.99%!!!!

He said that he could lower it to 14.99%, then asked me what my other cards were running...I told them that my Citibank Platinum was at Prime+5.99=9.99% (this is true), and he said that this was the best that he would be able to do for me! I said "I'll take it!"

Thanks for this phone number. Less than a month ago, I called 1-800-DISCOVER and tried this, and they didn't do anything for me. I don't know if things have just changed in my file since then, or if it was just because this Retention phone number was the magic number (which I think it was). Either way, I went from a card that was about 21.99% for years to the now 9.99% and am ecstatic!!!!

    Thanks!!

I would call...but every time I call they want to do a "HARD"

I even asked to TRADE for the TITANIUM card that has NO CASH BACK...they said I had to apply!!!

    I have a BT @ 5.90% till 12/2003 with a "GO-TO" 12.99%

First of all, I would like to say that it is an honor to get a reply from the famous curmudgeon "GEORGE"...

Secondly, George, I would encourage you to call the number at the very top of this topic and try again. The CSR told me that they had 2 ways to do it (which I knew and you probably do too, but I'll mention here for the sake of those that don't). They can request it internally without a "HARD", and that may do it for you (this is what they did for me), or they can do a "HARD" and you call back the next day blah blah blah, no thanks. Like you mentioned in another post, I couldn't give a flip if the BT rate was 100%, because I'm not going to use it.

Now, George, call right now and respond back here with your results! I gotta know!

Wow-- magic number. I haven't used my Discover card in years. The "regular number" could never do anything for me.

Still burning from my Citi fiasco, I decided to try this and ----lo and behold-- they dropped me from 12.99 to 9.99.

Funny-- I'm raging mad bc Citi raised me to 9.99 and thrilled that Disc lowered me to 9.99 (LOL)

    Thanks for starting this thread!!

    Creditnet rocks.

Discover's 9.99 is probably better than Citi's 9.99 because you get cash back from Discover. What Citi gives you ??? NOTHING !!!

    OMG I can't believe it !!!

Discover is now better than Citibank...ha...ha...ha...

HOW ABOUT ASKING FOR A "PRE-APPROVED" LIMIT INCREASE INSTEAD???

    NONE FOR 2+ YEARS...

    SINCE I WON'T PAY 12.99% OR 9.99%

True, George, it was one + year old. I did some searches on some things and came across it, then decided to call the number listed.

    IT WORKED FOR ME!

I still want you to call and let us know how it goes!!!
    :)
