Dumb mistake. Can I get my $ back?

Hello! I did something rather dumb and wanted to see if I have any recourse to get my money back.

I thought I had perfect credit and had a 3-1 credit report pulled. I found on there a 6 year old collection account from Pierce Hamilton and Stern for $500 from an old apartment I moved out of. The landlord states there was a $500 cleaning bill when we moved out. I had never been notified of this. (nor do I now think its valid) I called Pierce and after being threatened will all sorts of stuff hastily paid them over the phone with my credit card.

About two seconds after I did it I realized I should not have. I tried to dispute the transaction with MBNA but after the dispute process they state they can not credit the charge unless I provide them with a "merchant credit" from Pierce. I tried to call Pierce to have the charge canceled and get a merchant credit but they would not do so.

I realize this will probably be a lesson learned for me and I'm out $500, but I wanted to see if there was any other strategy out there I could use to get that transaction canceled. I don't know what I was thinking, I should have just disputed the item with the credit bureaus etc.

Let me know if any more info would help. I made the payment about a month ago and I just got back the dispute letter denial from MBNA.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the links. I actually have read a lot on this board the past few days before posting my situation.

I know there are a lot of things I could have done before they had my money, but now that they have it is there anything I can do to get it back?
