Ok, so I'm still waiting for the 'official' credit reports that I mailed away for, but since we just opened that Wells Fargo secured credit card, I got an 'alert' from Credit Karma that my credit report had changed, so I logged in to see and there it was, along with my credit reports for TransUnion and Equifax. First thing that has me confused is that I have one tab that says 'Accounts', and in another tab is 'collections.' Accounts In the "Accounts Tab" I have some strange stuff, like an Amex account that it says was opened in 1985. I was 11 years old in 1985. There is nothing 'negative' on the account though. So I'm not 'overly' concerned with it. Next I have a Sallie May Student Loan that was opened in 2000 in the amount of $6,625. There is no payment history on it and the remarks say 'Debt being paid through insurance.' I am not aware of any insurance. In my divorce, my ex-husband agreed to pay that debt, but eventually, he couldn't anymore, and so I believe I had it consolidated sometime between 2007 and 2010, but I can't remember the details. Next is a US Dept of Ed Loan- it says it was opened May 14, 2010 in the amount of $7,375. This account shows Payment Status 120-149 Days Late Worst Payment Status 120-149 Days Late 120 days late 4 times in 2012 and 3 times in 2011. * I believe I have this loan in 'deferment.' But it also says that my amount past due is $0 and in the remarks it says 'transfer.' Next is ANOTHER US Dept of Ed- same open date as the last, May 14, 2010, in the amount of $7,552. Payment Status 90-119 Days Late Worst Payment Status 120-149 Days Late * It also says: Times 30/60/90 Days Late 0/2/4 How could I have been 60 days late twice and 90 days late 4 times, if I've never been 30 days late even once? It shows that my amount past due is $0 and the remarks say, -- Now we come to the next one USDOE/GLELSI Also opened May 14, 2010, in the amount of $8,192. This shows that I am current, and have never been late. And almost last... is another USDOE/GLELSI this one opened Dec 6, 2010 in the amount of $1,811, which also shows as current and never having had a late payment. Finally, under "Accounts" is my brand new Wells Fargo secured cc. I haven't even used it yet, but I will be paying my bills with it this week. Now... Under the "Open Collections Tab" there are (12) items. ARS. Opened Dec 27, 2011 for $514.00 COMNWLTH FIN. Opened January 14, 2015 for $59.00 COMNWLTH FIN. There are only 7 here and what is interesting is that the 'medical' CA's from the TransUnion report, do appear here, same dates and amounts, but with a different company name for the CA and no address of the CA.
The accounts with no address, I would dispute with EX on that alone, they are required by law to provide valid contact information for all trade lines. They will probably not be deleted, but I would argue, if they can not provide valid contact information, how can they be validating the information is valid.
Forget the Opened Dates. You need the Date Of First Delinquency -- dates. That will tell you when these accounts will drop off. That is also the date to go by for the SOL. Forget where I learned this, but apparently SL's do not always report 30 day late's (their way of being nice I suppose).
Hey jam, thanks for that. Ok, so is there a specific letter in the letters section that I should use for this dispute? Hey mindcrime, I know I need to know the DOFD, but where do I find that information, as it doesn't appear to be on my credit report. I know the SOL's on the cc loans in FL, but not the apartment lease, or the medical bills. Also, what is SL?
I had a look through the 'Sample Letters" sub-forum and the only letter I found for a dispute was this one: http://consumers.creditnet.com/Discussions/sample-letters/t-dispute-entry-your-credit-report-70230.html Should this be what I use to dispute those entries on Equifax from those CA's with no addresses? Thanks
Really, although that form letter specifically doesn't raise any red flags, I usually recommend something simple.
